Blackwood Solutions Partners with Ameren-Illinois to Drive Sustainable Pole Recycling

At Blackwood Solutions, we’re proud to lead the charge in sustainable waste management, and our partnership with Ameren Illinois is a testament to that commitment. Through our innovative pole recycling program, we’re helping Ameren Illinois repurpose thousands of wooden utility poles, keeping 2,100 tons of wood waste out of landfills in 2024 alone!

Ameren replaces approximately 24,000 utility poles annually across Illinois and Missouri due to storm damage, accidents, or upgrades. These poles, treated with preservatives for longevity, pose a unique recycling challenge. That’s where Blackwood Solutions steps in. Since launching our partnership in 2022, we’ve recycled 5,500 tons of wood, transforming decommissioned poles into valuable materials like fencing, landscaping products, and building supplies. Local customers and nonprofits can even request poles for projects such as parking lot borders or community fences.

This partnership with Ameren highlights our dedication to reducing environmental impact and supporting local communities. By repurposing utility poles, we’re not only diverting massive amounts of waste from landfills but also providing practical resources for community projects, showcasing the power of innovative recycling.
